Description
This task is adapted from the Early Grade Mathematics Assessment (EGMA). In this task, children solve a range of mathematical problems including number identification, number discrimination, filling in a missing number within a pattern, addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
In addition, there is a number line estimation component embedded in the task. Children see a number line anchored with specific numbers (e.g., 0 and 10) and a marker indicating a specific place on the number line. The children then select the number from a series of choices that best matches the marked point on the number line.
See below for a description of each problem type.

Math Components
Number and numeracy task descriptions (All EGMA task descriptions adapted from RTI documentation.)
EGMA Number Identification. The child hears a number read aloud and is asked to select the number from four choices.
EGMA Number Comparison. The child is presented with two numbers and asked to select the largest.
EGMA Missing Number. The child is presented a number pattern with three numbers and one blank space somewhere in the pattern. The child is asked to complete the pattern by selecting from a set of options which number goes in the blank space.
EGMA Level 1 Addition. The child is presented with several simple addition problems, asked to solve them without using pencil and paper, and told to select their answer from a set of options.
EGMA Level 2 Addition. The child is presented with several two-digit addition problems and asked to solve. They are presented with a set of options from which to select their answer.
EGMA Level 1 Subtraction. The child is presented with several simple subtraction problems asked to solve them without using pencil and paper, and told to select their answer from a set of options.
EGMA Level 2 Subtraction. The child is presented with several two-digit subtraction problems and asked to solve. They are given the option to use pencil and paper. They are presented with a set of options from which to select their answer.
EGMA Multiplication. The child is presented with single and double digit multiplication problems to solve. They are presented with a set of options from which to select their answer.
EGMA Fractions. The child is presented with addition and subtraction fraction problems to solve. They are presented with a set of options from which to select their answer.
Number Line Estimation Task. Children are shown number lines with anchor points at both ends. Children are presented with a number and asked to move a slider to mark where the number would be on the line. Alternatively, children are asked to select a number from a set of options to represent a pre-marked location on the number line (Laski & Siegler, 2007).

Task Modifiers / Parameters
Audio Feedback | Determines whether audio cues are provided during the task to indicate correct or incorrect responses. |
Language | Specifies the language used for instructions and stimuli in the task. |
Skip Instructions | Whether the participant can skip instructions or needs to wait for the audio to finish. |
Sequential Practice | Determines if practice trials are presented in a fixed order rather than randomized. |
Sequential Stimulus | Specifies whether the main task stimuli are presented in a sequential order or randomized. |
Corpus | Refers to the set of stimuli or word list used in the task. (Currently not allowing outside corpuses) |
Button Layout | Defines the arrangement of response buttons on the screen. Options include default (4 x 1), grid (2 x 2), column (1 x 4), and diamond â—‡. Default is default. |
Number of Trials | Specifies the total number of trials in the main task. |
Number of Practice Trials | Indicates the number of practice trials before the main task begins. |
Max Incorrect | Sets the maximum number of incorrect responses allowed before the task terminates. |
Key Helpers | Determines whether visual cues for keyboard shortcuts are displayed near response options. |
Age | Represents the age of the participant, which may affect task difficulty or stimulus selection. (Currently not in use) |
Max Time | Specifies the maximum duration of the task. If the participant does not finish within this time frame, the task is terminated. Default is 100, in minutes. |
